The shock of life... by SchwarzesLykan The shock of life... by SchwarzesLykan
UPAEP
6th semester

Fellow doctors-in-the-making. We've been learning how to handle Emergency situations. Blue code, CPR, resucitation and stuff. It's stressful...

No school or teacher will tell you when is OK to stop trying to save someone... YOU will have to decide. The power to say if someone lives or dies...

...

Doctors walk the path of life, two walking beside them.
They look at their right and Life smiles at them...
They look at their left and Death smiles at them...
Doctors have to eventually decide whose hand they are going to take...

...

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

I  this photo. The situation. My classmates expression... Fear. Determination. Stress. And, above all... HOPE.

:iconlaplz:
Here I am, after a cod awful surgery exam... 2 weeks of endless exams... sooo sleepy. Decided to "do some rounds" here on deviantart... and waaaaaaaaaa! A DAILY DEVIATION!!!! MY CODNESS!!! I knew something was off when I saw +300 messages...

I know this isn't a professional photo or something really earth shattering or whatever. It's just some med students... learning. I would have never imagined a pic I took with my phone after I had finished my own simulation exam was going to get a DD. This was... just important for me. And I love it. Just for the fact that it reflected the situation we were in and cuz they are my friends in there. The fact that others like it too, makes me happy and proud.

Oh, and... NOPE, we don't shock when there's a flatline ... that's just TV/Movies drama. :D

Thank you sososososo very much to ~coldbritto for suggesting it, and to ^estudio for accepting! I'm so honored! And hugs to everyone who has commented and faved!

The shot just captures the moment so well; the facial expression, bodies, everything." The shock of life... by ~SchwarzesLykan. We've got a flatline! CLEAR! *THUMP!* AGAIN!! Bleeeeeeep......

And yes, a lot of hard work and an extended period of time too, but as I was just thinking the other day, school years go by pretty quick and however long it'll seem now at the start, one day I might just blink and poof! I'll be at the end of it all! XD

If you don't mind me asking, what was it that made you want to be a doctor? Or go into medicine as a broader topic =]

And you're welcome! I couldn't pass up commenting or fave-ing this photo! =]

Oh, so true. It seems only yesterday when I was thinking "Oh, 4 years!!!" And now, in just one semester, I'll be leaving for my internship. :faint:

Oh, cod. THE question. You know, I always find it difficult to answer that question...

I don't really have a specific reason. I've wanted to be a doctor since I can remember. I've still got some of my kindergarden notebooks and, you know, the typical task: "What do you want to be when you grow up?"... the answer was ALWAYS the same... "Doctor". I don't know why. I guess you could say I was born with that idea.

Now I can give more valid reasons. I've been in a hospital. In the ER, in surgery, in consults. I've been amongst doctors, nurses, patients and families alike.

Once, I was working on the ER, I was collecting samples from a lot of patients. A girl stopped me, and asked if I could explain to them the results from a blood exam and an X-ray and tell what was wrong with her mom. I smiled and said "Sure". I was panicking inside! I was just in 5th semester, I felt I knew the bare minimum! And now, give my impressions and a probable DIAGNOSE?! I took the results. I asked her symptoms and everything I could think of. I told her what I thought could be the most probable diagnose. Her and her mother's smile of relief. Her gratefulness. You felt it a lot in the ER. Patients and their families alike thanked you and saw you with such a look... just because you relieved their pain a bit, gave their meds, cleaned their wounds.

It was the greatest thing I've ever felt. And that just made it clearer for me. I WANT to do this for the rest of my life.

(Oh... and, yep, the resident doc came and actually confirmed my diagnose for that patient. I felt like doing a party :D )

I apologize for the late reply!

Wow! That's great!! I wish you enjoyment and success out of the internship!

Wow that's really incredible to read about! That's so neat how you always wrote the idea of being a doctor too =] And that experience definitely sounds like a good one, I can practically see the relief and joy coming from what you wrote here :aww:

What field of Medicine are you going towards?
I think it sounds like you're going to make a wonderful doctor too =]

It's nice to meet you. :) Greetings from California!

You're a guitar player, eh? Can you do what this girl can do? [link] :P

I'm just being goofy. A doctor is more worthy than a guitar player, I'd say. :)

Bad thing about this career is that's not good for hobbies that require practice hours.

Anyway, nice to meet you too!. Saludos  desde México!!! :P!

Yep... oh, we learned CPR in 3rd, but we don't do clinical practice, Blue Code and OR practice until we are in 5th.

And the stress? Cuz it was our final exam... we had to "save the patient" to pass. :P

Congratulations, but....

Well, it's a good picture, but I can't see photographing a megacode/ALS training scene as a DD. Maybe I'm just jaded and see it as too ordinary from having done it myself so many times.

Anyway, as I said, good capture. It's composed very well.

To be honest, I never really thought this would get this kind of recognition. As I said, perhaps this was just important to me and the fact that others like it is a bit surprising.
Maybe it would have been more breathtaking if it had been a real life or something, but.... Perhaps if I graduate, become a doctor and do this for the rest of my life, I'll look back and find this ordinary as well...

Thanks for the comment, :)

When doctors walk the path of life, there are also nurses that walk with them as well, and are often the ones that guide their hand either to Life or Death, depending not only on the doctor's choice, but also the nurse's knowledge, wisdom, and courage to say "NO" when he or she is certain the doctor is making the wrong decision. As a nursing student, this becomes more and more apparent to me each time I experience clinicals at my local hospitals. Please be good to your nurses when you become a doctor someday.

Couldn't agree more with you.

In this semesters I've been doing clinical practice in hospitals, I have learned so much from nurses. I admire some of the nurses for the patience and attention they have for the patients, their hability to handle SO much work and chaos...

I will do my best, when I become a doctor, to work and have a good relationship with nurses... I've seen so many doctors and specialists be so incredibly rude to them, it makes me feel ashamed. They don't realize they wouldn't be able to do their work without them...
